How to Apply for the Nonprofit Discount

1. Verify through Goodstack

Zoom uses Goodstack (formerly TechSoup Global) for nonprofit verification. Visit zoom.us/nonprofits and click Apply. You will be redirected to Goodstack to verify your organisation's nonprofit status.

2. Provide documentation

You will need your 501(c)(3) determination letter (US) or equivalent documentation for your country. Goodstack typically verifies within 2-5 business days.

3. Receive discount code

Once verified, Goodstack provides a discount code. Apply this code during Zoom checkout. The 50% discount applies immediately to eligible products.

4. Renew annually

The discount applies to annual billing only. You will need to re-verify your nonprofit status at each renewal. Keep your Goodstack account active.

Zoom for Education

K-12 schools and higher education institutions do not qualify for the nonprofit discount. Instead, they use Zoom for Education, a separate product with its own pricing.

  • Pricing: Per-institution, contact Zoom sales. Typically 40-60% below standard commercial pricing depending on scale.
  • Includes: Unlimited meetings for students and faculty, LMS integrations (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle), classroom-specific features.
  • Requirement: Must be an accredited K-12 school, college, or university.
  • COVID era: Zoom offered free unlimited access for K-12 during 2020-2022. This programme has ended. Current education pricing requires a paid contract.

For budget comparison: Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals is free for qualifying institutions and includes Google Meet. Microsoft 365 Education is also free (A1 tier) or heavily discounted (A3/A5).

Government Pricing

Zoom for Government (Zoom Gov) is a separate product hosted in AWS GovCloud for FedRAMP compliance. Pricing is not public and is negotiated per-agency. Key points:

  • FedRAMP Moderate authorised (required for most federal agencies)
  • Hosted in US sovereign cloud infrastructure
  • Pricing typically 20-40% above commercial rates due to compliance overhead
  • Multi-year contracts with volume discounts
  • Procurement typically through GSA schedule or direct contract

Free Alternatives for Nonprofits

Before paying for discounted Zoom, consider these free options for qualifying nonprofits:

Google Workspace for Nonprofits

Free for qualifying nonprofits. Includes Gmail, Drive (100TB pooled), Google Meet (with 150-participant meetings), and all Workspace apps.

Qualification: 501(c)(3) verified through Google for Nonprofits.

Microsoft 365 for Nonprofits

Free (Business Basic) for up to 300 users. Includes Teams, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive (1TB/user).

Qualification: 501(c)(3) or equivalent. Verified through Microsoft Nonprofits. Premium tiers are heavily discounted.

Both Google and Microsoft offer their full suite free for qualifying nonprofits, including video conferencing. Zoom's 50% discount means you still pay. For most nonprofits, the free Microsoft or Google option is the better deal.
